Bible Our Bible study includes the birth, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus,
the lives of Moses, David and Samuel, as well as the books of Joshua, Judges,
Ruth and Jonah. We recite verses (King James Version) together in class and
students recite individually for a grade. We also have quizzes over the Bible stories/characters we study. Bible
verses we memorize include the following: school theme verse, 1 John 4:7-21, Proverbs 3:1-7 and Romans 8:28-39.
Reading We use the Bob Jones Pages in My Head reader that contains short stories, poetry, folk tales and articles. We also read three to four novels as a
class. Students have several book
reports due throughout the year. We visit our school library once per week for lessons and a time to
check out books. The Book-It
program and Accelerated Reader are used to encourage out-of-class reading.
Math Basic math facts
in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers are
reviewed. We also study measures,
proper and improper fractions, mixed numbers, and addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division of fractions and decimals as well as introducing
algebraic equations with variables and geometric figures.
Language To help students
express themselves clearly, creatively and correctly, we cover the eight parts
of speech, punctuation, book reports, letters and a research report as well as
journal writing.
Old World History and Geography These subjects include the study of Asia, Europe, Antarctica, Africa and
Australia.
Science (3 nine-week periods) We study flowers, insects, mammals, light, the
earth’s structure, the sea, energy and engines, the sky, weather and
vertebrates. Learning to take
chapter notes is emphasized.
Health (nine weeks) Study in this area includes the
circulatory system, nutrition, digestion and fitness.
Spelling Spelling tests, which include a
spelling list and vocabulary, are given on Wednesdays and new lists are given
on Thursdays.

Each student has a student planner and writes all
assignments in it each morning. A
homework pocket folder that contains finished and unfinished assignments is
kept by each student. Any
assignment not done at the end of the day is homework. These assignments should be completed
and ready to turn in the next morning.
Daily homework should not exceed more that one hour
on a regular basis. (There may be
occasional exceptions.) Homework
is not assigned on Wednesdays per school policy. Late work receives a 10% deduction.
Vacation breaks are for rest, relaxation and family
time; therefore, there will be minimal or no homework during these periods.
