Mathematics

I believe with proper teaching and consistent student learning that math can be a positive experience for every student at Central Christian.

I expect students to come into class ready to work and ready to learn and to behave in a way that allows themselves and others a positive environment for learning and working.

HOMEWORK:

Homework assigned daily is worth 10 points each.  Students earn a percentage grade for each assignment.  If an assignment has 33 problems, then each problem is worth 3 points.  If an assignment has 30 problems, then each problem is worth 3.3 points.  If an assignment has 25 problems, then each problem is worth 4 points and so on.

Students can earn up to 5 percentage points (in class) for correcting homework problems that were done incorrectly (by showing their work and by getting the correct answer).  Example: Student A correctly worked 30 out of 33 problems for a 91%.  Student A correctly works the incorrect problems in class (by showing all of his/her work) and receives 5 percentage points for a 96%.  This homework grade goes down as a 9.6 in the grade book.

Homework will be due two days after assigned.  This gives the student a chance to ask questions the next day in class and complete it on time when involved in outside activities.  The only homework assignment due the next day (instead of two days) will be the last one assigned in each chapter and the day before a test. Students who turn in late homework will lose 20% on that particular homework assignment and an additional 10% for each day thereafter.

Homework is worth 33% of the student’s quarter grade.

Tests are worth 67% of the student’s quarter grade.

Semester exams are worth 15% of their semester grade.

Students who turn in late and/or incomplete homework (2 times) or have behavioral issues will need a note signed from their parents per the Student Action Plan that I will be sending home with them.  If students continue to turn in late or incomplete homework or have behavioral issues, I will personally contact their parents.

7th/8th/9th grade students will be using calculators only when necessary.
