By the end of the course students should have a good concept of the following topics (in some cases at an introductory level):
- Expressions and equations
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Properties of addition and multiplication
- Order of Operations
- Translating word problems into equations and solving word problems
- Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals
- Metric system
- Integers, rational numbers and number theory
- Equations and inequalities
- Ratio and proportion
- Percent
- Geometry, including perimeter, area and volume
- Statistics and probability
- Square roots and radicals
- Special triangles
The course grade is based on homework, quizzes, tests and in-class work. Students or parents who wish to confirm the student’s current grade may contact the teacher.
Students are responsible for information in assigned reading material regardless of whether all of that information is discussed in class. Assignments should be done on notebook paper or worksheets (not spiral or tablet paper). Math/calculation assignments should be done with a pencil. Written assignments should be in cursive with ink or on the computer as specified by the teacher.
All school policies regarding conduct, dress code, and readiness for class are in effect in this class. Students are expected to respect the teacher, guests and each other, and with God’s help, do their best in all things.
