CENTRAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – HUTCHINSON, KS
Course: Physical Education
Instructor:            Jay Walter / Nancy Whiteman
School Year:            2008-2009
Grade Level: 6th – 8th Grade

God’s Word teaches us that our human body is considered His temple and exists for His honor and glory.  Our desire is that students in middle school physical education will honor God by learning to use their bodies (His temple) to pursue fitness of abilities, actions, thoughts and attitudes.  This course serves a dual role as it provides opportunity for physical education instruction as well as serving as a portion of middle school athletic practice time.

Our theme verses indicate that exercise and hard work are profitable; however, it is godliness that holds promise for eternity.
I Timothy 4:8 states, “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”  II Chronicles 15:7 states,  “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak; for your work shall be rewarded.”  Students are challenged to work hard with godly motives in physical education class.

Students in middle school physical education are expected to:

  1. Develop a knowledge and understanding of sport activities.
  2. Demonstrate attitudes and behaviors consistent with Christian character.
  3. Participate in, and develop skills through activities which enhance their fitness and ability to serve
  4. Comprehend terms, concepts, rules and strategies related to motor skills , fitness and sporting activities.
  5. Develop interest in and enthusiasm for sport activity participation.
  6. Derive enjoyment and achievement through participation in sport activities.

The student shall observe the following classroom rules and policies:

  5. Demonstrate skill and abilities on specified performance test.

  7. Participate in all activities as directed by instructor.

Students are evaluated by the following standards and grades are reported quarterly:

  1. A daily grade of 5 points is awarded in physical education units for compliance with classroom policies 1 - 7.  One (1) point is deducted for each infraction of policy 1 - 7.  Unexcused non - participation receives a zero (0).
