CENTRAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – HUTCHINSON, KS
Course: Physical Education
Instructor: Mike Ellis
School Year: 2008-2009
Grade Level: Kindergarten – Grade 5
God’s Word teaches us that our human body is considered His temple and exists for His honor and glory. The instructor’s desire is that students in elementary physical education will honor God by learning to use their bodies (His temple) to pursue fitness of abilities, actions, thoughts and attitudes. This course is aimed at helping each student achieve a measurable degree of improvement in his ability to move, think, and relate favorably with God and man.
We believe that hard work is rewarded, and that philosophy is promoted as our theme. The Bible states in II Chronicles 15:7 “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak; for your work shall be rewarded.” Students are challenged to work at their best in physical education class.
The student is expected to:
- Participate in a variety of activities developing skills to enhance their fitness and ability to serve.
- Comprehend terms, concepts, rules and strategies commensurate to ability and activity.
- Develop and demonstrate the social skills of cooperation, communication and sportsmanship.
- Develop interest in and enthusiasm for sport activity participation.
- Derive enjoyment and achievement through participation in sport activities.
The student shall observe the following classroom rules and policies:
- Perform routine class procedures including sitting in attendance spot, warming up and stretching exercises correctly.
- Follow instructions on use of items and use all items for intended purpose only.
- Demonstrate whole-hearted effort, fair play by adhering to rules and courtesy by appropriately cooperating with classmates.
- Demonstrate skill and ability on specified performance test.
- Participate in all activities as directed by instructor.
- The student should inform the instructor regarding participation restrictions. A written note signed by parent or physician is the preferred method for students to be excused from participation.
Each student is evaluated by the following standards and grades are reported quarterly:
- Students are evaluated in Kindergarten and 1st based on their mastery of the specified skill.
- Students in 2nd – 5th earn a daily grade of 5 points for participation and attitude by demonstrating compliance with classroom policies 1 - 5. Points are deducted for infractions of the above stated policies according to the severity. Students who repeat infractions during an instruction period have participation restrictions and will receive 2 – 3 points for that day. No student will receive fewer than 2 points on a given day.
