CENTRAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – HUTCHINSON, KS
Title of Course: Spanish 1
Instructor: Andrew Ramirez
School Year:  2007-2008
Grade: 9
Credit Value: .5 per semester
Textbook: Por todo el mundo, A Beka Book

Course Objective:

Spanish I develops the four fundamental language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening and also helps students learn to appreciate Hispanic cultures.

Topics:

This course will incorporate a variety of language “building blocks” such as vocabulary, grammar structures, composition techniques, reading comprehension techniques, and conversation techniques.  All of these skills will be developed in the classroom within a meaningful context so that students can effectively retain and apply language learning in real-life situations.

Christian Worldview:

Language learning helps students to appreciate other cultures, see the way other people think, and connect with them as human beings.  As Christians, such learning and experiences can make students better prepared for God to transform them, and those with whom they come in contact, in unexpected and powerful ways.

Grading:

Grades will be based on student performance on a variety of homework, quizzes, tests, reports, and projects.  Homework and/or quizzes will be given daily while tests will be given approximately every three weeks.  Each test will usually cover 2-3 chapters of material.  Tests given at the end of each nine-week period will be cumulative.  Reports and projects will be assigned occasionally throughout the school year.  The school grading scale and late work policy will be followed.  Parents may be notified of students’ grades through the school’s regular progress reports and grade cards and also on an “as needed,” individual basis.

Expectations:

In order to succeed in Spanish I, students must come to class with all necessary materials and ready to learn.  They must fully participate in each class session and be prepared to have homework and quizzes on a daily basis.  They must turn in all assignments on time and take responsibility for their own personal study outside of class.

Rules/Regulations:

All students must behave in a respectful, Christ-like manner towards their classmates, instructor, and all property in the classroom.  They must also try in all activities done in class.  Regarding classroom discipline, the school referral system will be followed.

Supplies:

Students will need a good pen or pencil and notebook for taking notes.  Any other materials needed will be announced in class where necessary.
